Muesli & Pellet Rabbit Food
The remaining 20% of the daily diet can be made up of a Muesli mix or pellets and Pets Pantry would strongly recommend that the brand you choose does not have any form of added sugar whether it be from molasses, fruit pulp or syrup as this could lead to obesity or poor dental health, for your Rabbit.
Also available are monoforage diets if you would prefer to feed a complete food in a fibre form, Pets Pantry would suggest Fibafirst that has a very high fibre content at 30%. Our Supreme Selective range of Rabbit foods has 25% fibre and as rabbits have been shown not to eat enough daily hay, it is important that other parts of the diet contain a high percentage of good quality fibre.
There has recently been some research carried out on 32 Rabbits by Edinburgh Veterinary University, in relation to the feeding of various diets. Pets Pantry always like to keep abreast of new developments in companion animal husbandry, and will be very interested in reading the peer reviewed report when it is available. When the other scientists have reviewed the results should there be any information that has implications in relation to your Rabbits diet we will keep customers informed.
If you are thinking of changing your Rabbits diet, we recommend, a slow transition onto any new food, at a ratio of 5 - 2 as this gradual change over allows the digestive tract, time to adjust. A 5 - 2 ratio means substituting a fifth of the diet with a fifth of the new diet every 2 days, after 10 days your Rabbit will be totally onto the new food.
